Kegerreis Helps Huskies Past Columbia Union

BLOOMSBURG -- Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds to lead Bloomsburg University past Columbia Union College, 69-54, Monday night at the Nelson Field House.

Columbia Union jumped out to the early advantage in the game taking an 18-8 lead in the first seven minutes of play. Jada Richardson scored seven points for the Pioneers in the early going to spark the surge.

The Huskies then put together a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to tie the game at 18-18 with 9:33 to play. Kelly Joyce (Ashland Cardinal Brennan) hit a three-pointer to get the Huskies within two, 18-16, before Shameika Christian (Pittsburgh/Mercyhurst Northeast) tied the score on a layup. After Columbia Union regained the lead, Bloomsburg used a 9-0 run to take a 27-20 lead with 1:35 to play before the half. Monica Dennison (Zion Grove/Hazleton Area) scored three points in the run. Following a basket by Richardson that made it a five lead for the Huskies, Lauren Healy (Glenmore/Owen J. Roberts) nailed a three-pointer just before halftime giving Bloomsburg an eight-point cushion at the break, 30-22.

Bloomsburg made it a 10-point lead in the opening minute of the second half before the Pioneers scored five straight to get back within five points at 32-27. Then, with the Huskies leading 39-32, Bloomsburg used a 16-0 run to take a commanding 55-32 lead with 6:44 to play in the game. Kegerreis and Joyce each scored six points in the rally.

Columbia Union did get to within 18 points with five minutes left in the game, but that would be as close as it would come.

Along with Kegerreis getting 14 points, Chantal Hardy (Philadelphia/Harcum College) scored 12 and Lauren Healy 10 for the Huskies, now 3-2. Columbia Union, 0-5, got 19 points from Jada Richardson.

Bloomsburg plays at IUP on Saturday at 1 p.m.
